Hunters Hill ANZAC March & Memorial Service 2026
Event Photography

On April 23rd, the Hunters Hill community gathered for the annual ANZAC March and Memorial Service – an evening of remembrance, reflection, and respect for Australian service personnel past and present.

Hosted by Hunter’s Hill Council together with the Hunters Hill RSL Sub-Branch, the commemorations began at the RSL Memorial Wall before the community march proceeded through Alexandra Street toward Hunters Hill Town Hall for the evening service.

The service brought together veterans, families, local residents and politicians, scouts, cadets, and community organisations in a shared moment of remembrance.

A Community United in Remembrance

The evening opened with an Acknowledgement of Country recognising the Wallumata People and honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service personnel.

Throughout the service, prayers for peace, scripture readings, wreath laying, and the traditional recitation of The Ode created moments of quiet reflection. As the piper played and the flag was lowered to half-mast, the atmosphere across the memorial wall became deeply moving.

The familiar words:

“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”

were spoken collectively by the crowd before the response echoed back:

“We will remember them. Lest we forget.”

Photographing the ANZAC Service

Photographing commemorative events such as ANZAC services requires sensitivity, patience, and respect for the significance of the occasion.

Rather than focusing only on formal moments, we aimed to document the emotion and atmosphere of the evening – quiet reflection, veterans standing proudly in uniform, wreaths, community participation, and the solemnity of the march itself.

These events are important historical and community records, preserving moments of remembrance for future generations.

The Hunters Hill March

Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the ANZAC march moved through Hunters Hill accompanied by pipe band music and community members walking together toward Town Hall.

The evening concluded with blessings for peace and remembrance, honouring those who served and sacrificed.

Hunter’s Hill Council described the event as a community commemoration honouring those who served, those currently serving, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
