In July 2023, North Sydney Oval became a sea of green and gold as football fans gathered to watch the CommBank Matildas take on the Republic of Ireland in their opening match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. A giant outdoor screen transformed the historic venue into a lively community viewing site, where Australian and Irish supporters came together to experience the excitement of the tournament.
Koshka Media was there to document the event, capturing not only the action on the screen but also the atmosphere that made the evening so memorable.

From the moment the gates opened, the excitement was impossible to miss. Families, friends and passionate supporters arrived wearing Matildas jerseys, waving Australian flags and sharing in the anticipation before kick-off.
As the match unfolded, every tackle, save and goal sparked a wave of emotion across the crowd. Cheers, applause and nervous silence created countless authentic moments that reflected just how much this team meant to Australians. While the Matildas’ World Cup journey ended that night, the incredible support from fans showed how the tournament had united communities across the country.
