2017 Six Nations Wine Challenge
at Four Seasons Sydney
The 2017 Six Nations Wine Challenge brought together some of the finest wines from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Chile, South Africa and the USA for an international wine competition in Sydney.
Following the judging, the celebration continued with an elegant awards dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, bringing together winemakers, judges and guests for an evening dedicated to exceptional wine.
Six Nations Wine Challenge
The Six Nations Wine Challenge was an invitation-only competition showcasing leading wines from six New World wine-producing nations.
Rather than wineries simply entering their own wines, wines were selected by respected wine authorities representing each participating country. They were then brought together in Sydney and assessed through blind judging.
Today, the competition continues as the Global Fine Wine Challenge, maintaining its focus on outstanding New World wines and independent judging.
For the 2017 Challenge, hundreds of wines were tasted across a wide range of varieties and styles before the winners were announced.
Celebrating the 2017 Winners
One of the standout Australian wines of the 2017 competition came from Margaret River.
The Xanadu Reserve Chardonnay 2015 received three major honours:
Wine of Show
White Wine of Show
Chardonnay Trophy
Produced by Xanadu Wines in Margaret River, Western Australia, the Chardonnay emerged as one of the defining wines of the 2017 competition.
New Zealand’s Elephant Hill Reserve Syrah 2014 was another major winner, receiving Red Wine of Show.
The results reflected the diversity of the competition, with award-winning wines representing vineyards and wine regions across the participating nations.
An Evening at Four Seasons Hotel Sydney
The awards dinner was held at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney on George Street, overlooking Sydney Harbour and Circular Quay.
The black-tie evening brought the formal side of the competition together with a celebration of the people behind the wines.
Guests had the opportunity to experience the competition wines while winemakers and representatives were recognised for their achievements.
Between the wine, speeches, presentations and conversations around the tables, the evening provided plenty of moments to document.
