St Patrick’s Day Parade Sydney: Photographing One of the City’s Most Colourful Cultural Celebrations Every March, Sydney transforms into a sea of green. Streets fill with pipe bands, Irish dancers, stilt walkers, flags, music, and thousands of people celebrating Irish culture in the heart of the CBD. This year, we had the chance to photograph the Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade. It was one of the most energetic and visually rich public events we’ve documented. The annual parade has become one of Sydney’s biggest multicultural celebrations, bringing together the Irish community and the wider public for a day of music, culture, family events, and celebration. The parade traditionally runs through the city towards Circular Quay and The Rocks, with thousands lining the streets to watch the procession. A Celebration With Deep Sydney History What many people don’t realise is that St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Sydney date back more than 200 years. Historical records mention celebrations as early as 1795, making it one of the city’s longest-running cultural traditions. Over the decades, festivities evolved from horse races and community gatherings into large-scale public parades and festivals. Today, the Sydney St Patrick’s Day Festival celebrates not only Irish heritage but also Sydney’s multicultural identity. The event includes live music, Irish dance performances, family-friendly activities, cultural displays, markets, and community groups from across NSW. Why Parade Photography Is Different Parade photography is one of the most unpredictable forms of event coverage. Unlike weddings or corporate events where moments can be planned, parades move constantly. Light changes every few minutes. Crowds shift. Performers interact spontaneously. The challenge is balancing documentary storytelling with fast-moving action. For us, photographing the St Patrick’s Day Parade meant focusing on: genuine crowd reactions movement and colour cultural details and costumes emotion and community connection wide environmental frames mixed with close candid moments The streets around Martin Place, Circular Quay, and The Rocks provided an incredible backdrop. Sydney’s sandstone architecture combined with bright greens, marching bands, and Irish flags created a visually cinematic atmosphere throughout the day. The Energy of Public Events One of the strongest parts of photographing community festivals is capturing shared emotion. Public events like this bring together people from completely different backgrounds around a common celebration. This year’s parade featured hundreds of marchers including pipe bands, Irish dancers, community groups, children’s performers, and cultural organisations. Organisers described the event as a celebration of Irish culture and community spirit, with thousands expected to attend throughout the festival weekend. As photographers, these events are full of fleeting moments: kids waving flags from their parents’ shoulders performers laughing between routines strangers dancing together in the crowd quiet moments behind the scenes before the parade begins Those are the moments that tell the real story of an event. Why Professional Coverage Matters for Festivals & Parades Large public events happen once. Good photography helps organisers, sponsors, tourism boards, cultural organisations, and media teams continue telling the story long after the event ends. Professional parade photography can be used for: future event promotion tourism campaigns media and press releases sponsor partnerships social media marketing archival documentation community storytelling Strong visual coverage also helps preserve cultural history. Events like the Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade are part of the city’s evolving identity and deserve to be documented properly. Photographing Culture, Community & Connection At Koshka Media, we approach event photography with a documentary mindset. We’re interested in atmosphere as much as action. Real moments over staged ones. The St Patrick’s Day Parade was a reminder of how powerful public celebrations can be, especially in a city as multicultural as Sydney. If you’re organising a festival, parade, cultural event, community celebration, or public activation, we’d love to help document it in a way that feels authentic, energetic, and timeless. Mariana Enriquez at Benengeli 2025 Melbourne
Mariana Enriquez at Benengeli 2025 Melbourne At Koshka Media, we travelled to Melbourne to film a special Benengeli 2025 event presented by Instituto Cervantes, featuring internationally acclaimed Argentine author Mariana Enriquez at the Melbourne Writers Festival. The conversation explored literature, horror, memory, politics, and the sensory experience of storytelling – a thoughtful and atmospheric event that deserved to be captured with the same level of care and intention as the discussion itself. For live literary events like this, professional video production plays an important role in preserving not only the words being spoken, but the energy in the room, audience reactions, and the connection between speaker and interviewer. High-quality sound is especially critical. Clear dialogue allows audiences online to fully engage with the conversation without distraction, while multiple camera angles help create a more immersive viewing experience that feels cinematic rather than static. To capture the event properly, we used a multi-camera setup for dynamic coverage from different perspectives, alongside professional audio recording to ensure every word was captured cleanly and clearly. The final film allows the conversation to continue reaching audiences well beyond the theatre itself. We’re grateful to Instituto Cervantes Sydney for having us involved in such a meaningful cultural event. https://youtu.be/xC0lVfY-HsQ Event Photography and Videography for Not for Profit Organisations If you are planning a conference, community event or not for profit gathering, Koshka Media would love to help you capture it with thoughtful photography and video coverage across Sydney. Bay to Beach Sydney Harbour Race – Fundraising Event Photography Sydney
Bay to Beach Sydney Harbour Race Fundraising Event Photography Sydney Sydney Harbour came alive before sunrise as athletes, volunteers, supporters, and fundraising teams gathered for the annual Bay to Beach paddle race – one of Sydney’s most iconic harbour sporting events. This year, Koshka Media was there to provide professional fundraising event photography and sporting event coverage across the entire day. From the quiet moments before sunrise to the energy of the race start and the emotion at the finish line, the event showcased everything that makes Sydney Harbour such an incredible location for charity and community events. Early Morning Atmosphere on Sydney Harbour Long before the race began, the harbour foreshore was already full of activity. Competitors prepared kayaks, paddle skis, and boards while volunteers coordinated registrations and supporters gathered along the waterfront. The atmosphere before the start carried a mix of excitement, focus, and nervous anticipation. Some athletes quietly prepared for the challenge ahead, while others laughed with teammates and supporters as the city slowly woke around them. Sydney Harbour provided a spectacular backdrop for the morning. Calm water, soft sunrise light, ferries moving through the harbour, and views across the Sydney skyline created an unforgettable setting before the race had even begun. For fundraising event photography, these early moments are just as important as the competition itself. The preparation, teamwork, community spirit, and behind-the-scenes atmosphere all help tell the full story of the event. The Energy of the Race Start As the starting horn sounded, the quiet harbour instantly transformed into action. Hundreds of paddlers launched into Sydney Harbour together, creating one of the most exciting and visually spectacular moments of the day. Water sprayed through the air as competitors powered away from the start line surrounded by spectators and some of Sydney’s most recognisable landmarks. Throughout the race, Koshka Media focused on capturing both the intensity of the competition and the atmosphere surrounding the event. From close-up action photography to wide harbour scenes, every image was photographed to showcase the scale, emotion, and energy of the race. Sporting events on Sydney Harbour offer unique photographic opportunities, with the city skyline, open water, and constantly changing light creating dramatic conditions throughout the course. More Than a Sporting Event While competitors raced across the harbour, the atmosphere back on shore remained just as important. Supporters, families, volunteers, and fundraising teams gathered throughout the morning to cheer on participants and support the cause behind the event. The Bay to Beach race proudly supports the Fragile X Association of Australia, helping raise awareness and funds for individuals and families affected by Fragile X syndrome. Events like this play an important role in building community connection and supporting organisations that provide education, advocacy, and ongoing support for families across Australia. The strong community spirit throughout the day showed exactly why charity and fundraising events continue to be such an important part of Sydney’s sporting culture. Finish Line Moments By the finish line, the emotions of the day were written across every face. Athletes arrived exhausted, relieved, proud, and smiling as supporters welcomed them from the shoreline. Some competitors celebrated personal achievements, while others completed the race in support of loved ones or to help raise funds for the cause behind the event. These finish-line moments often become the most meaningful photographs from the entire day. They capture not only the physical challenge of the race, but also the emotion and purpose behind the event itself. Why Professional Event Photography Matters Professional fundraising event photography continues to create value long after the event is over. Strong visual coverage helps charities, sponsors, and event organisers promote future events, attract community support, increase sponsorship opportunities, and build stronger engagement online and across social media platforms. Authentic images of athletes, volunteers, supporters, and the event atmosphere become an important part of promoting the event for years to come. At Koshka Media, we focus on capturing the complete story of sporting and fundraising events across Sydney – documenting not only the action, but also the people, atmosphere, and purpose behind every event. Community Event Photography Sydney – Street Play 2023 in Wollstonecraft
Community Event Photography Sydney Street Play 2023 in Wollstonecraft In 2023, Koshka Media had the opportunity to photograph and film one of the most vibrant community events we’ve experienced in Sydney – Street Play 2023 in Wollstonecraft, presented by North Sydney Council. Held on Selwyn Street, the event transformed a quiet neighbourhood road into a lively public space filled with families, music, games, bikes, conversations and connection. As a team specialising in community event photography in Sydney, these are the moments we love capturing most: genuine interactions, spontaneous laughter and the energy that comes from people simply enjoying being together. A Street Turned Into a Community Celebration For one weekend, cars made way for people. Children played freely on the street, neighbours gathered outside their homes, and families spent the afternoon enjoying activities designed for all ages. The atmosphere throughout the day felt warm, relaxed and welcoming. After years of isolation during the COVID period, events like this became more important than ever. You could genuinely feel how much the community appreciated having a safe and vibrant outdoor space to reconnect with others again. From our perspective behind the camera, the event had an authenticity that made documenting it incredibly rewarding. There was no need to manufacture moments – the smiles, conversations and excitement were happening naturally everywhere we looked. Free Ice Cream, Lawn Games and Bike Maintenance One of the highlights of the day was the free ice cream provided by Gelateria Dolce Bacio, which quickly became a favourite stop for both kids and adults. The queue never seemed to end, and it added a fun summer festival atmosphere to the afternoon. Families also gathered around the oversized lawn games presented by Garden Games. Giant games brought strangers together, sparked friendly competition and created some of the most joyful moments of the event. Another fantastic initiative was the free bike maintenance service offered by Pedal Set Go. It encouraged locals to ride to the event while also supporting active and sustainable transport within the community. These small details made a huge difference. The event felt thoughtful, inclusive and genuinely designed around creating positive experiences for local residents. Supporting Community Connection After COVID What stood out most to us was how community-focused the entire event felt. North Sydney Council deserves real praise for investing in initiatives that bring people together in meaningful ways. During and after COVID, many communities experienced long periods of isolation and disconnection. Events like Street Play helped create opportunities for people to rebuild social connections, spend time outdoors and feel part of their neighbourhood again. As photographers and filmmakers, we often see firsthand how important these shared experiences are. Children gain confidence playing outdoors, parents connect with neighbours, and local streets become places people actually want to spend time in together. Street Play 2023 was more than just an event, it felt like a reminder of how valuable community spaces and local gatherings can be. Capturing Community Events Across Sydney At Koshka Media, we love documenting events that bring people together. From council activations and cultural festivals to local markets and family-friendly public events, our goal is always to capture genuine moments and tell the story of the community behind the event. Street Play 2023 in Wollstonecraft was a perfect example of what happens when thoughtful planning, local support and community spirit all come together for a wonderful weekend experience. Michael Morgan OAM Lunch at Deckhouse Woolwich
A Full Room for Michael Morgan OAM at Deckhouse Woolwich Last month we had the privilege of photographing a very special community lunch honouring Michael Morgan OAM. The room was full of former students, colleagues and well wishers, all gathered to celebrate a man who has given so much to Australian rowing and to generations of rowers he coached and mentored. Michael is an Olympic silver medallist, former Australian representative rower and one of the most respected rowing coaches in the country. Set against the water at Deckhouse in Woolwich, the afternoon had a warm and generous feel from the moment guests arrived. The venue looked beautiful, the room was buzzing, and the food was every bit as good as the setting. Plates arrived full of rich, beautifully presented dishes, and between courses the conversations kept flowing. What stood out most was the feeling in the room. People from different rowing eras were reconnecting after many years, sharing stories, laughs and memories. There were heartfelt speeches, friendly hugs, and a deep sense of gratitude for the coach who had shaped so many lives both on and off the water. It felt less like a formal event and more like a reunion built on respect, friendship and appreciation. Photographing gatherings like this is always special. It is not just about documenting a function, but about capturing the connection between people, the emotion in the room, and the small moments that tell the real story of the day.
