Bay to Beach Sydney Harbour Race Fundraising Event Photography Sydney Sydney Harbour came alive before sunrise as athletes, volunteers, supporters, and fundraising teams gathered for the annual Bay to Beach paddle race – one of Sydney’s most iconic harbour sporting events. This year, Koshka Media was there to provide professional fundraising event photography and sporting event coverage across the entire day. From the quiet moments before sunrise to the energy of the race start and the emotion at the finish line, the event showcased everything that makes Sydney Harbour such an incredible location for charity and community events. Early Morning Atmosphere on Sydney Harbour Long before the race began, the harbour foreshore was already full of activity. Competitors prepared kayaks, paddle skis, and boards while volunteers coordinated registrations and supporters gathered along the waterfront. The atmosphere before the start carried a mix of excitement, focus, and nervous anticipation. Some athletes quietly prepared for the challenge ahead, while others laughed with teammates and supporters as the city slowly woke around them. Sydney Harbour provided a spectacular backdrop for the morning. Calm water, soft sunrise light, ferries moving through the harbour, and views across the Sydney skyline created an unforgettable setting before the race had even begun. For fundraising event photography, these early moments are just as important as the competition itself. The preparation, teamwork, community spirit, and behind-the-scenes atmosphere all help tell the full story of the event. The Energy of the Race Start As the starting horn sounded, the quiet harbour instantly transformed into action. Hundreds of paddlers launched into Sydney Harbour together, creating one of the most exciting and visually spectacular moments of the day. Water sprayed through the air as competitors powered away from the start line surrounded by spectators and some of Sydney’s most recognisable landmarks. Throughout the race, Koshka Media focused on capturing both the intensity of the competition and the atmosphere surrounding the event. From close-up action photography to wide harbour scenes, every image was photographed to showcase the scale, emotion, and energy of the race. Sporting events on Sydney Harbour offer unique photographic opportunities, with the city skyline, open water, and constantly changing light creating dramatic conditions throughout the course. More Than a Sporting Event While competitors raced across the harbour, the atmosphere back on shore remained just as important. Supporters, families, volunteers, and fundraising teams gathered throughout the morning to cheer on participants and support the cause behind the event. The Bay to Beach race proudly supports the Fragile X Association of Australia, helping raise awareness and funds for individuals and families affected by Fragile X syndrome. Events like this play an important role in building community connection and supporting organisations that provide education, advocacy, and ongoing support for families across Australia. The strong community spirit throughout the day showed exactly why charity and fundraising events continue to be such an important part of Sydney’s sporting culture. Finish Line Moments By the finish line, the emotions of the day were written across every face. Athletes arrived exhausted, relieved, proud, and smiling as supporters welcomed them from the shoreline. Some competitors celebrated personal achievements, while others completed the race in support of loved ones or to help raise funds for the cause behind the event. These finish-line moments often become the most meaningful photographs from the entire day. They capture not only the physical challenge of the race, but also the emotion and purpose behind the event itself. Community Event Photography Sydney – Street Play 2023 in Wollstonecraft
Community Event Photography Sydney Street Play 2023 in Wollstonecraft In 2023, Koshka Media had the opportunity to photograph and film one of the most vibrant community events we’ve experienced in Sydney – Street Play 2023 in Wollstonecraft, presented by North Sydney Council. Held on Selwyn Street, the event transformed a quiet neighbourhood road into a lively public space filled with families, music, games, bikes, conversations and connection. As a team specialising in community event photography in Sydney, these are the moments we love capturing most: genuine interactions, spontaneous laughter and the energy that comes from people simply enjoying being together. A Street Turned Into a Community Celebration For one weekend, cars made way for people. Children played freely on the street, neighbours gathered outside their homes, and families spent the afternoon enjoying activities designed for all ages. The atmosphere throughout the day felt warm, relaxed and welcoming. After years of isolation during the COVID period, events like this became more important than ever. You could genuinely feel how much the community appreciated having a safe and vibrant outdoor space to reconnect with others again. From our perspective behind the camera, the event had an authenticity that made documenting it incredibly rewarding. There was no need to manufacture moments – the smiles, conversations and excitement were happening naturally everywhere we looked. Free Ice Cream, Lawn Games and Bike Maintenance One of the highlights of the day was the free ice cream provided by Gelateria Dolce Bacio, which quickly became a favourite stop for both kids and adults. The queue never seemed to end, and it added a fun summer festival atmosphere to the afternoon. Families also gathered around the oversized lawn games presented by Garden Games. Giant games brought strangers together, sparked friendly competition and created some of the most joyful moments of the event. Another fantastic initiative was the free bike maintenance service offered by Pedal Set Go. It encouraged locals to ride to the event while also supporting active and sustainable transport within the community. These small details made a huge difference. The event felt thoughtful, inclusive and genuinely designed around creating positive experiences for local residents. Supporting Community Connection After COVID What stood out most to us was how community-focused the entire event felt. North Sydney Council deserves real praise for investing in initiatives that bring people together in meaningful ways. During and after COVID, many communities experienced long periods of isolation and disconnection. Events like Street Play helped create opportunities for people to rebuild social connections, spend time outdoors and feel part of their neighbourhood again. As photographers and filmmakers, we often see firsthand how important these shared experiences are. Children gain confidence playing outdoors, parents connect with neighbours, and local streets become places people actually want to spend time in together. Street Play 2023 was more than just an event, it felt like a reminder of how valuable community spaces and local gatherings can be. Capturing Community Events Across Sydney At Koshka Media, we love documenting events that bring people together. From council activations and cultural festivals to local markets and family-friendly public events, our goal is always to capture genuine moments and tell the story of the community behind the event. Street Play 2023 in Wollstonecraft was a perfect example of what happens when thoughtful planning, local support and community spirit all come together for a wonderful weekend experience. Dragon Boat Racing at Darling Harbour in Sydney
Dragon Boat Racing at Darling Harbour Sydney Event Photography Sydney’s Lunar New Year celebrations once again brought incredible energy to Darling Harbour, with Dragon Boat Racing transforming the harbour into a vibrant celebration of culture, sport, and community. Koshka Media was proud to photograph the event and document the excitement throughout the day – from the intensity of the races on the water to the atmosphere shared by teams, families, and spectators along the foreshore. Celebrating Lunar New Year Through Sport and Community Dragon boat racing is deeply connected to tradition and community, bringing people together through teamwork, determination, and cultural celebration. As part of Sydney’s Lunar New Year festivities, the event showcased not only competitive racing but also the diversity and connection that make community events so important. Events like these highlight the value of supporting local sporting and cultural communities while creating experiences that bring people together. Hunters Hill ANZAC March & Memorial Service 2026
Hunters Hill ANZAC March & Memorial Service 2026 Event Photography On April 23rd, the Hunters Hill community gathered for the annual ANZAC March and Memorial Service – an evening of remembrance, reflection, and respect for Australian service personnel past and present. Hosted by Hunter’s Hill Council together with the Hunters Hill RSL Sub-Branch, the commemorations began at the RSL Memorial Wall before the community march proceeded through Alexandra Street toward Hunters Hill Town Hall for the evening service. The service brought together veterans, families, local residents and politicians, scouts, cadets, and community organisations in a shared moment of remembrance. A Community United in Remembrance The evening opened with an Acknowledgement of Country recognising the Wallumata People and honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service personnel. Throughout the service, prayers for peace, scripture readings, wreath laying, and the traditional recitation of The Ode created moments of quiet reflection. As the piper played and the flag was lowered to half-mast, the atmosphere across the memorial wall became deeply moving. The familiar words: “At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.” were spoken collectively by the crowd before the response echoed back: “We will remember them. Lest we forget.” Photographing the ANZAC Service Photographing commemorative events such as ANZAC services requires sensitivity, patience, and respect for the significance of the occasion. Rather than focusing only on formal moments, we aimed to document the emotion and atmosphere of the evening – quiet reflection, veterans standing proudly in uniform, wreaths, community participation, and the solemnity of the march itself. These events are important historical and community records, preserving moments of remembrance for future generations. The Hunters Hill March Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the ANZAC march moved through Hunters Hill accompanied by pipe band music and community members walking together toward Town Hall. The evening concluded with blessings for peace and remembrance, honouring those who served and sacrificed. Hunter’s Hill Council described the event as a community commemoration honouring those who served, those currently serving, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Event Photography in Sydney We photograph community events, commemorations, cultural gatherings, and public ceremonies across Sydney and the Central Coast, with a documentary approach focused on authenticity and storytelling. Conference Photography & Videography at PARKROYAL Parramatta
Conference Photography & Videography at PARKROYAL Parramatta Some events stay with you long after the final speech, the last photograph, and the pack down. Koshka Media recently photographed and filmed the conference – Silence to Power: Amplifying Voices for Justice at PARKROYAL Parramatta, an International Women’s Day signature event presented by Settlement Services International (SSI) and the Western Sydney Region Settlement Consortium (WSRSC). Bringing together more than 200 guests, the day centred on the launch of Messages from Captivity: For Ali, for Us All – Amera Ali, a powerful memoir by young Yezidi woman and ISIS survivor Amera Ali. Amera shared words she had written on scraps of paper and hidden in her clothes at just ten years old, messages to her brother Ali, who remains missing. Her story gave the event enormous emotional weight and reminded everyone in the room that bearing witness can be the first act of justice. Photographing and Filming Silence to Power for International Women’s Day One of the most memorable elements of the day was a tree lit with warm lights at the heart of the room. It symbolised one of the last places Amera and her brother were together before ISIS separated them, under a fig tree. As guests left, they hung commitment leaves on its branches, each one representing a promise of action in support of refugee and migrant women’s voices. It was a thoughtful and moving detail that shaped the mood of the event from beginning to end. A Moving Conference Honouring Refugee and Migrant Women’s Voices Throughout the conference, another theme emerged with quiet strength: mothers. Again and again, speakers reflected on the women who carried them through hardship, often with resilience the world never properly acknowledged. That thread connected Amera’s story to the panellists’ experiences and to conversations across the room, reminding everyone that supporting refugee and migrant women means honouring past generations while building better futures for those to come. A powerful idea also stood out across the day: the need to move beyond the phrase lived experience and recognise lived expertise. Refugee and migrant women are not simply sharing stories. They bring insight, knowledge and leadership that should be centred in decision making, policy and practice. As the speakers and panellists made clear, real inclusion means shared power and meaningful leadership at the table. The event also highlighted the work of the organisations behind it. Settlement Services International (SSI) and the Western Sydney Region Settlement Consortium (WSRSC), together with co-hosts and members including SydWest Multicultural Services, Accessible Diversity Services Initiative (ADSI) Limited, Community Migrant Resource Centre, Western Sydney MRC, and event partner 2M Language Services, created a day that felt purposeful, respectful and deeply considered. The venue played its part beautifully. PARKROYAL Parramatta provided a polished and welcoming setting for a conference of this scale, with modern event spaces and a central Western Sydney location well suited to professional and community focused gatherings. Event Photography and Videography for Not for Profit Conferences If you are planning a conference, community event or not for profit gathering, Koshka Media would love to help you capture it with thoughtful photography and video coverage across Sydney and Western Sydney. Michael Morgan OAM Lunch at Deckhouse Woolwich
A Full Room for Michael Morgan OAM at Deckhouse Woolwich Last month we had the privilege of photographing a very special community lunch honouring Michael Morgan OAM. The room was full of former students, colleagues and well wishers, all gathered to celebrate a man who has given so much to Australian rowing and to generations of rowers he coached and mentored. Michael is an Olympic silver medallist, former Australian representative rower and one of the most respected rowing coaches in the country. Set against the water at Deckhouse in Woolwich, the afternoon had a warm and generous feel from the moment guests arrived. The venue looked beautiful, the room was buzzing, and the food was every bit as good as the setting. Plates arrived full of rich, beautifully presented dishes, and between courses the conversations kept flowing. What stood out most was the feeling in the room. People from different rowing eras were reconnecting after many years, sharing stories, laughs and memories. There were heartfelt speeches, friendly hugs, and a deep sense of gratitude for the coach who had shaped so many lives both on and off the water. It felt less like a formal event and more like a reunion built on respect, friendship and appreciation. Photographing gatherings like this is always special. It is not just about documenting a function, but about capturing the connection between people, the emotion in the room, and the small moments that tell the real story of the day.
